What could be more natural than Junior and the King? That's NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. hosting a night of Elvis Presley movies at Graceland during this year's Elvis Week.
"Elvis has fans that are great fans of NASCAR, so it was a natural progression that we married those things," said Paul Jankowski, Elvis Presley Enterprises' chief marketing officer. Earnhardt said he couldn't be happier. The driver was introduced to the King by his grandmother. "He was her man her favourite," Earnhardt said. "So I just learned a lot from her about his music and his films, and that has stuck with me as I've grown up. I think there's a powerful connection people have with the music they grow up with, and Elvis fits into that category with me."
He even had an Elvis-themed guest room in his house for a while.
"We found someone who decorated the headboard of the bed to look like one of Elvis' jumpsuits with the glitter and all and we took Elvis 45s and used them to create a border all around the room near the ceiling to give it a real vintage feel," he said. Earnhardt will host the opening night of "Elvis Music and Movies" on the lawn of Graceland on Aug. 13. A restored and digitally remastered copy of "Viva Las Vegas" will be screened.
