DUBLIN (AFP) Irish-born film star Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has been charged with two public order offences after he was arrested at Dublin airport, Irish state radio RTE reported on Monday.
RTE said the 30-year-old actor was charged in a Garda (police) station on Sunday with being drunk and disorderly and in breach of the peace and was released on cash bail to appear in court next month.
The Garda press office refused to comment saying it was not police policy to identify anybody charged until they appear in court.
Rhys-Meyers was in Dublin for a TV appearance on Saturday on an RTE television chat show.
Born in County Cork in the south of Ireland, Rhys-Meyers has starred in several films including Woody Allen's Match Point, Mission Impossible III, Elvis for which he won a Golden Globe Award ,and Bend It Like Beckham in 2002 with the young Keira Knightley.
He was on the RTE show to promote his latest movie August Rush and The Tudors, a television series that examines the reign of England's Henry VIII in which Rhys-Meyers plays the monarch.
